Israel Film Center launches Festival

Israel Film Center Festival

New York, NY March 20, 2013 - The Israel Film Center at The JCC in Manhattan is proud to announce the inaugural Israel Film Center Festival, premiering in New York City from April 11 - 18, set to be the most extensive showcase of Israeli films in the city. The festival will present the best of Israel's newest films while celebrating Israel's thriving film industry and promoting Israeli Culture to American audiences.

Israel's film industry has become an international phenomenon. In recent years Israeli films were featured at the world's most prestigious festivals, including Cannes, Berlin, Toronto, and Sundance, as well as receiving annual Oscar nominations (just this year, two Israeli films were nominated for the Academy Award for best documentary). Israel's creative industry has been successful on the small screen as well, with numerous TV shows adapted by U.S. networks, most recently the Emmy award winning show, Homeland.

Israel Film Center Festival will be presented in multiple locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and will include prestigious filmmakers and actors in attendance. Director of the Israel Film Center, Isaac Zablocki says, "This promises to be the greatest celebration of Israeli film New York has known." The festival is participating in the Upper West Side's celebration of Israel's 65th anniversary of independence, supported by UJA Federation. Following an opening night at Chelsea's SVA Theater, the festival will take place at The JCC in Manhattan, Cinema Village, and Congregation Beth Elohim in Brooklyn, as well as one-off screenings at The Center for Jewish History, and Columbia University.
